It has been my good fortune to hav been brought into this world at a time when music, unadultareted music, existed. Please don't misunderstand and begin to think that I am single minded of music interest. Thinking in that area would be very far from the truth, I am fortunate to be able to enjoy all forms of music within various degrees. Admittedly, my preference is supportive of music of the 50's & 60's...AKA...Doo Wop (Oldies).
While the talent of today is varied and strong, the lifespan of today's music will never sustain. While talent such as Nirvana, Beyonce, Brittney and others exist, their lifespan will never reach and equal longevity such as: The Skyliners, Duprees, The Platters, The Tokens and the list continues.
Yesterday, the music of that time in history was pure. Muscians would come on to the stage, armed with their portable amplifiers, a drum kit and, should someone have the money...a keyboard. The reality was...what you heard was real. Today, with all the innovations in sound technology, I, a 64 year old gentleman, could walk into a studio, lay down a track or two and come out sounding like Maria Carey. Today, it's about looks and technology. (Do you honestly believe that you will be dancing to anything by Lady Gaga when you're 60)? Meanwhile, those of us in that age group are still enjoying, dancing, and singing along with the sounds of The Coasters, The Channels, Del Vikings and others.
OK, I've initiated this dialogue and I'm prepared to support "my position." Keep in mind that I've already said that I enjoy most forms of music. I simply believe that the sounds of Doo Wop will continue, as they have since the 50's & 60's, to remain an intergral part of our music culture...far longer than most of today's music.
